Paying attention.February 1st, 2012
Ann Voskamp’s One Thousand Gifts has impacted me deeply as it has so many, by pointing to gratitude for grace upon grace as the source of real joy.
I am re-reading it now, and this sentence arrow-pierced my heart the second time around. In the chapter “what do you want?,” Ann describes her experience of leaving her chores and cares and lists one night to chase the moon. Awakened to the weight of glory in a world revealing its Creator, she notices a simple wheat stalk, bent before God, backlit by the moon as it silently bows in praise to the Father. She raises one hand, then another, and lowers herself, bowed like the wheat, to worship.
“I pay tribute to God by paying attention.”
