our hope in fear.March 5th, 2013 7 comments

Last week, I was afraid.

I worried my ideas wouldn’t work out, my plans wouldn’t go well, my thoughts wouldn’t be right.

How can I start, I asked Mike, when I’m scared I can’t finish?

The Pastor held my hand across the table.

The fear is where the Jesus is, he said.

So often I forget this — asking for a path that needs no Guide, searching for a calling with no need of the One who calls.

But Christ can only pour into the spaces I’ve not already filled with myself.

A lesson I am learning each and every day. Thank you for your transparency. You put into words what my heart often feels.

  3. Thank you for this, “The fear is where the Jesus is”

    I needed that reminder today.

One of my fears is that I won’t finish the race well. That I’ll poop out in the end and throw in the towel. Ah, but Jesus is there. He’s always cheering me on. When I was in high school I had a simple prayer on my locker door, “Father, give me strength to survive the struggles” and 30 + years later He Is.

Have a great rest of the week.
    Blessings, Jo

That is the cry of my and my husband’s heart as well — that we’ll finish the race well. May God give us both courage and grace to do so.
